Hurricane relief for Methodist Church in Fiji
A request from the President of the Methodist Church in Fiji for hurricane relief support. The relief suggested is to send a container of
(a) second hand clothing,
(b) bedding supplies eg: blankets, sheets, etc, towels
(c) household goods eg: pots and pans, food storage containers .
(d) non perishable food, eg noodles, powdered milk , tea coffee etc
The MCIF is working closely with Fiji Government relief but specific support to Methodist Church relief programme is desperately sought.
Most of us have been watching the news . The TV news in Australia is not portraying the devastation as we are seeing on social media . TV views of flooded areas through Suva, Rewa, Navua, Central areas. Photos we have viewed via social media are showing widespread devastation of houses, villages, extensive and long-term crop damage , drowned livestock, etc. In personal conversations with the President and General Secretary of the Fiji Methodist Church, badly hit areas include,. Northern and Eastern Divisions; Vanua Levu, Savusavu, Taveuni, Koro and Southern Lau islands.
Financial donations will greatly assist with shipping and freight charges for a container.
Costs estimated to be approximately $6000. The container can then remains as property of the Methodist Church in Fiji and used as required.
Any extra financial donations would contribute to local purchase in Australia of extra non-perishable goods as requested from Fiji Methodist Church via Mission Liaison Group (MLG).
For cash donations: MLG is a Charitable Institution: ABN 57 655 904 353. Unfortunately we cannot offer tax deductibility for donations. Electronic transfers to UNITING CHURCH MISSION LIAISON GROUP; CBA Chelsea; 063 118 10059600.
